The holiday season is a special time of year for us at Alta Convenience. Besides the merriment of the holidays and the joy of cozying up with a hot cup of Green Mountain coffee, this season allows us to partner with local charities to give back to our communities. Last year, we partnered with Make-A-Wish during their 2023 Star Campaign, and with the help of our generous customers, we were able to raise over $300,000.

More than Your Local Convenience Store and Gas Station

Giving back is part of our ethos of corporate social responsibility and community involvement. We know we owe a lot to the members of our communities who stop in to buy gas or shop our variety of food and snack options. Simply put, we wouldn’t be here without you. By partnering with our customers to support a local cause like Make-A-Wish, together we have the privilege to give back to the cities where we live and work.

“This is such an amazing time of year when this area gets to participate in the Star Campaign for Make A Wish. Our whole community gets involved and looks forward to it every year!”

Who Is Make-A-Wish?

Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has been providing wishes to children with critical illness. Studies have shown that making a child’s wish come true can have a positive impact on their health as well as strengthen the entire family. Though based in Phoenix, local chapters in the states in which our convenience stores are located work to make a lasting impact in the neighborhoods they serve. For children, the holidays can be a magical time and we look forward to our annual partnership with Make-A-Wish to restore the magic of the season to those in our communities who need it the most.

Why We Support Make-A-Wish

Though there are many impactful local nonprofits and charities to donate to during the holiday season, we decided to partner with Make-A-Wish to bring joy to the children and families in local areas who are enduring a serious illness. We have been a proud Make-A-Wish partner since 2020.

“It was such an amazing year for our Make-A-Wish Star Campaign. We are grateful for our community and all their support. Our motto this year was:  anything for the kids.”

Our convenience stores and gas stations are located in 5 states including Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, and New Mexico. We also serve Missouri and Illinois under the banner name Petro-Mart. Collectively, our stores raised over $300,000, and throughout our partnership with Make-A-Wish, we have raised over $1.2 million. This year each state raised:

  • Colorado: $179,725
  • Missouri: $79,326
  • Illinois: $13,294
  • Kansas: $12,378
  • Wyoming: $11,901
  • Nebraska: $6,473
  • New Mexico: $4,108

We want to thank our customers for partnering with their local convenience stores and gas stations again in another successful year with Make-A-Wish and for helping strangers in their communities who are in need.

The Transformative Work of Community Involvement

For us, helping those in need is rewarding as we see the effects of our customers’ generosity at work throughout our communities but this partnership also changes us: serving those in need is transformative work. With community involvement at the core of who Alta Convenience is as a brand, we look forward to many more years of partnering with Make-A-Wish and other highly impactful local charities.

“We were Bakesale-ing and Toy Ice Fish-ing and doing Giveaways to reach our Make-A-Wish-ing goal! We did a ‘Pie the Old Guy’ event that was a hit!”
